Microsoft REALLY wants folks to move off from ANYTHING that ...

I have been thinking for a bit that Microsoft not only wanted Windows 7 to die quickly but Windows 8.x as well.  Windows 7 because it is, admittedly old, and Windows 8.x because it is yet another Vista disaster.  Windows 8.x however is technically supported until 2023…however I am not surprised that Microsoft is trying to sweep the Windows 8.x disaster away.  Their apparent chosen path is disturbing.   According to an article Microsoft is delaying […]

It’s Official. Windows365 is here. Windows Subscriptions are ...

When the “free upgrade” to Windows 10 started I felt like something didn’t smell right.  To quote the last paragraph of that 2015 post: In a way it is a stroke of genius.  How do drug dealers do things?  They give you free taste..get you hooked then drain you dry.  I am not saying I know this for sure but the pieces line up this way.  Unless Microsoft says otherwise that’s the stance I am […]

The Basics on NOT Getting Infected (Updated April 23, 2016)

Windows has design issues…I have talked about it many many times.  However it IS possible to have a malware free system.  It’s really not that hard.  You do need to change your behavior on how you operate your windows systems. 1.  Have a security audit done if you’ve never had one done. 2.  Do not use IE or Edge.  IE’s issues are well documented.  Edge is suffering from basic coding mistakes that come with a […]

Security Issue I’ve Been Seeing With Microsoft Word and Malware ...

There is an active exploitation of a security flaw in all versions of Microsoft Word right now.  The various online media have been saying this is a targeted attack but i’m seeing general infestations with this security issue.  If your machines aren’t updated you first need to get all of your gear updated and then there is a patch available to repair the Word problem.  Keep in mind this issue is capable and has bypassed […]

MIcrosoft Office365=fail

Being a Microsoft partner when i saw they were giving MAPS subscribers their top of the line Office365 package I thought this would be great.  I was met with several challenges right off the bat: 1.Setting up the account isn’t straightforward at all.  In typical Microsoft fashion it’s a laborious, complicated process.  I knew this going in as this is the Microsoft way. 2.  Office365 calendars don’t work well with internet based calendars.  I […]

2014 and What it Means For Your Technology and Network

I know there are many small businesses that are running Windows XP still.  As of April of this year Windows XP officially dies.  Many programs are simply going to not work anymore as announced by their creators.  Sure you can hang onto the old versions but as more and more vendors refuse to update their software for Windows XP this also means your security is at greater risk than ever before.  Anti-malware vendors are also […]

One Less Microsoft Partner

My own protest here won’t mean anything to Microsoft but I am NOT renewing my membership at the beginning of 2015.  Microsoft has summarily removed ALL windows 7(server 2008, office 2010) etc etc etc from tech net AND their partner download areas.  I can’t even have the ability to get license keys anymore for those products!  This means time to research LINUX for my and my clients file serving and AD needs…:)  I hope i […]

Why bother? The sad state of Office 2013 touch support ...

So the flagship productivity app doesn’t even work fully with the new flagship OS.  The last time we saw this?  Vista. With Windows 8, Microsoft has created an operating system that is, at least in part, genuinely usable with nothing more than fingers. While it took the company a long time to recognize that finger-based touch systems were more approachable than stylus-based ones, and that touch-based software needed to be designed to accommodate the […]

Windows 8 = disaster? Looking More and More Likely

This type of thing only serves to reinforce my opinion that windows 8 is going to be another Vista…maybe even a bigger disaster.  it may be on par with Windows ME. On the eve of the Windows 8 launch, its no surprise that Microsoft is revealing its next Office suite. What may surprise you is that Office 2013 is not really designed for Windows 8. Its a suite with many remarkable enhancements, but it is not […]

Major Security Issue For windows(ALL VERSIONS)

this is inside a component that is on nearly every Microsoft machine worldwide.  this includes all versions of xp, vista, 7 and the server versions.  There is no Windows Update yet.  Please use the fixit for me link for a hotfix.  This is a patch for this issue but it may cause issues since it’s not been fully validated.  However this problem allows remote system takeover via IE AND Office. The link to the fixit […]
